Participants- Paelic, Scethan, and ?
Timeline- Week 1

The road to the lumberyard was very straightforward. There was only one path leading out of the town through the main gate and the road beyond only extended about a quarter mile before being absorbed by the jungle. The logging camp itself was off on a sidepath. Traveling at noon the day was excruciatingly hot but the danger of attack was much lower. Before not too long Paelic and Scethan reached the edge of the lumberyard. There was only a single small log cabin in a small couple hundred foot clearing of the jungle. Lumber was piled up in stacks and there was not a soul in sight. Hand tools and giant sawblades lay strewn about the clearing as if someone left in a hurry.

Paelic gave a shrug. "What do you think Astrai? You have far more experience in the wilds than I."

Scethan limbered his bow and crept slowly into the clearing, signalling his companion to follow his lead and keep an eye on the edges of the clearing while the elf scanned the ground for tracks or hints as to the goings-on in the lumberyard.

Scethan unslung his bow as Paelic warily followed. Turning the corner behind a pile of lumber Scethan found the the first of the bodies. The corpse was human but even that was difficult to tell. Large portions of flesh had been ripped off and the face was shredded to the point of being unrecognizable. Scethan's ears picked up as he gazed north into the jungle. Slowly taking steps backwards he nocked an arrow. Paelic looked up.
"What do you sense Scethan?" Paelic raised an eyebrow. The elf raised a hand to stop moving.
Paelic heard the crashing sounds mere seconds before the beast burst through the undergrowth. It was an especially large cold one, over ten feet in length and covered in thick dark red scales. With a snarl it looked at the prey standing before it and charged.

Initiative! (Also happens to be turn order)
Cold One 40 + 79 = 119
Scethan 46 + 39 = 85
Paelic 44 + 34 = 78

Scethan loosed his arrow at the beast as he carefully backpedalled, doing his best to avoid the debris on the ground around the lumberyard.

Scethan's arrow flew from his bow and as quickly as it launched he stepped back, knocking another arrow as he ran.

The arrow flew straight but the cold one ducked its head reflexively causing the arrow to glance off the thick scales on its back.

As the beast sunk its teeth into his companion, Scethan saw an opportunity and took aim at the beast's huge back. "Hope I can't miss from this close," he muttered to himself.

Scethan gracefully jumped onto a stack of lumber as he knocked another arrow into his bow. As the sharp fangs ripped into Paelic, Scethan jumped onto the beasts back firing an arrow into the base of its skull.

Point Blank Shot (+10 to hit and +10% critical strike chance)

The arrow flew true but failed to pierce the thick hide of the beast. Snarling the beast shook the elf off sending him back to the ground.

(Also Scethan you might want to check out the revamped marksman tree if you haven't yet. Since it has been changed around, if you want to change some skill points around you certainly may. Any changes would take effect next fight of course.)

Paelic cringed as the teeth sunk deep into his flesh. Pulling back sharply he narrowly escaped the second bite. Seeing the elf struggling he knew his ally needed range to work. Paelic stepped forward falling to one knee feigning fatigue. The cold one stepped forward sure its prey was finished and opened its jaws wide. Using his planted foot to spring himself backwards Paelic leapt back just in time to avoid the teeth. The cold predatory eyes glared as Paelic's right boot roundhoused into the beasts snout causing a small streak of blood and causing the beast to recoil in pain. Paelic grinned he knew a lot of animals had sensitive noses it was good this one did as well. Paelic's eyes went wide as he dove to the side behind a pile of timber dagger sized teeth grazing his boot.

Running along the pile of wood keeping it between himself and the Cold One Paelic ran crouched along the edge. The cold one in hot pursuit on the other side.

The Cold One charged after Paelic leaping over the lumber pile lashing at him with its large tail.

24-20+50=54<79 Hit

Damage

The tail caught him hard as Paelic tried to dodge out of the way. As Paelic fell to the ground coughing up blood the thought crossed his mind, "Perhaps angering the angry lizard wasn't the best plan". With a groan he got back to his feet and drew his rapier.

Scethan was torn. His companion was clearly doing poorly, but he knew he'd fare no better in close quarters with the massive predator. Nevetheless he thought he could draw some attention away, so he nocked another arrow and did his best to take careful aim with the beast so near. While it was engaged in biting his companion, he let released his arrow, which sped toward the target with a quiet whistle.

With a loud groan Paelic pulled his hand from his blood soaked armor and gripped the blade of his sword as tightly as he could trying to keep a grip on the now slippery handle. He wasn't certainly going to die to a stupid lizard without a fight.

The sword bit into the cheek of the beast and drew some blood but did little besides piss the beast off more. An expletive to Sigmar later Paelic took his practiced blade stance leveling the weapon in a defensive posture.

The cold one seemed unphased by all the attacks it was recieveing and charged forward determined to finish off its wounded human prey.

Paelic's blade met the beasts teeth as it lashed forward recoiling instantly at the sharp pain of metal on bone. Stumbling back several steps it readied itself to lunge again.

Scethan knew patience was part of the hunt; his adrenaline had been getting the best of him. He took slow careful aim as Paelic fended off another foray by the beast. Scethan muttered a quick prayer to the spirit of the winds and loosed his arrow, knowing that if he didn't take this beast down soon it would do to Paelic what it had done to those lumberyard workers.

The cold one's head snapped down unable to reach Paelic who was positioned underneath it. It stepped forward attempting to rake Paelic with its long hind claws.

Hit
27-20+50=57<70 Hit!

Wound
16-20+50=46<68 Wound

Damage
4-6 + S-T/5 - Arm
4-6 + 0 - 1 = 5 damage. - Paelic down.

The claws caught Paelic in the chest. With a kick the cold one dragged his body along the ground and flung Paelic's body backwards. Unceremoniously Paelic's body flew through the air like a ragdoll before smashing into a tree followed by an explosion of birds and broken branches. Paelic's body slammed into the ground. There was a long pause until Paelic groaned slowly forcing himself to one knee. Blood covered his face and chest. Using his sword to push himself up he struggled to stand. The sword slipped from his bloody fingers causing him to fall forward. Falling face first onto the grass Paelic lost consciousness.

Scethan you're up. Good luck.

Scethan saw what the creature had done to Paelic and began to grow nervous. He wasn't sure he could outrun the brute on his own, let alone trying to carry his comrade. If he was to have any chance at all he'd have to slow the thing down, one way or another. A little bleeding might help, he thought to himself as he took aim at the beast, hoping to catch it while it reoriented itself before it could turn on him fully.

Scethan exhaled sharply as he reeled from the beast's blow. He glanced about, doing his best to assess the situation; what he saw was grim. Shouldering his bow and returning his arrow to the quiver he glanced over to make sure that Paelic was still alive. He faked a dash in the opposite direction, and as the cold one shifted its cumbersome frame to pursue him Scethan redirected himself and made for Paelic. The settlement wasn't too far away; hopefully they could reach its safety in time.

(Dash/retreat? I'm not quite sure how that all works on this system, but I have the Longstride skill, so I can dash like a mother, enemy or no.)
